LESS SCROLLING. MORE ROLLING.THE INDEPENDENT BJJ CAMP GUIDE

THE BEFORE-YOU-GO CHECKLIST

Pack smart. Roll ready.

Less “just in case.” More clean kit, confirmed logistics, and a bag you can actually carry.

Pack Roll cyan-blue social card with a training bag, check mark, and neon border.

Before anything goes in the bag

Confirm the camp’s gi/no-gi schedule and dress code. Check laundry and drying arrangements, room facilities, baggage allowances, and whether towels or bedding are provided. The list below is a framework to adapt—not a claim that every camper needs identical quantities or equipment.

Training kit

  • Appropriate gi, belt, rash guards, shorts, or spats for your selected sessions.
  • Enough clean outfits for the actual laundry turnaround.
  • Familiar equipment that fits and meets the organizer’s requirements.
  • A separate bag for used clothing and footwear for moving off the mats.

Washing and personal care

  • Your own towel and ordinary washing supplies, unless suitable items are confirmed at the accommodation.
  • A plan for detergent, washing, and drying—not just access to a machine.
  • Personal care items stored where you can reach them after training.
  • Space to keep clean clothing away from used equipment and shoes.

The CDC’s athlete guidance supports washing and drying uniforms after use and avoiding shared personal items. Use practical arrangements that make clean sessions possible. Seek appropriate care for suspected skin infections rather than treating a packing item as a medical solution.

Travel and accommodation

  • Identification and any documents required for your particular journey.
  • Booking confirmations, the venue address, and an accessible emergency contact.
  • Charging equipment and any adapters needed for your route.
  • Personal medicines and supplies planned around professional advice and applicable travel requirements.
  • Comfortable everyday clothes and shoes for the activities you actually intend to do.

Your smaller venue bag

Bring the clean outfit required for your selected session, a water bottle, personal care items, and a notebook or permitted note-taking device. Check storage arrangements and keep access routes clear. Do not bring every valuable item simply because it fits in the bag.

The final three checks

Can you arrive and locate the camp without relying on one phone? Can you attend the first planned session in appropriate clean kit? Do you know how that kit gets washed and dried afterward?

Run a practice pack before the final evening, check the weight against your allowance, and plan for used clothing on the journey home. Read the full packing article for the reasoning behind the checklist, or return to travel planning to resolve the logistics first.
